Solibri Releases Solibri Model Checker v6 and Introduces Information Takeoff (ITO)

Solibri, Inc., the global leader of Model Checking for BIM quality assurance, announces the release and availability of Solibri Model Checker v6. In addition to new features and checking rules this release introduces two major innovations: Information Takeoff (ITO) and the OpenBIM Collaboration Process.

ITO (Information Takeoff) - Exploiting the “I” in BIM

For the first time, ITO makes the information in BIM available for wide use and analysis. ITO will allow “data mining” from the BIM by making it possible to instantly capture practically any information available and then generate customized reports.

“We all have seen how 3D geometric information is visualized and Quantity takeoffs are generated from BIM files. We asked ourselves “what if we could visualize all information, not just the geometry of components, and takeoff all information in BIM files, not just building components?”. “We came up with an answer: Information takeoff. Whatever information you are interested in, you can collect, filter, visualize, and create reports – instantly!”

ITO can be used for many purposes, ranging from quantity takeoffs to automated area calculations and extracting the information used (for example) in carbon footprint calculations. ITO makes it possible for users to define their own information requirements, extract the information required and customize their own reporting templates. As is the case with any innovation, we know our customers will find many uses for ITO that have not even occurred to us, yet.

OpenBIM Collaboration Process – Introducing the BIM Collaboration Format (BCF)

OpenBIM Collaboration Process is a revolutionary method of using an open standard to enable workflow communication between different BIM Authoring tools.

This idea was introduced to the buildingSMART community about one year ago and since then co-developed by Solibri and Tekla. This idea was announced publicly on the 5th of May 2010.

In practice, the standard specifies means by which designers and other stakeholders are able to share messages, action items, viewpoints and snapshots of specific components in a model and transmit them to others. The receiving party then uses this information in their own BIM Authoring Tool to identify and locate the component(s) and view them from the same viewpoint that the sender had established.

Collaboration on this level dramatically improves the coordination and resolution of issues found and reported from the Solibri Model Checker, as you can instantly move to the exact location and viewpoint where the issue was identified.
