Case Copenhagen Airport – Improving quality and communication.

Michael Ørsted and Kenneth Passarge from Copenhagen Airport present how they have been able to improve the quality of projects and communication between different stakeholders, such as the Asset Managers. They also share how they have started to develop common rules with other major building owners in Denmark.

Michael Ørsted has been working at Copenhagen Airport for 12 years, and is the overall responsible for GIS, BIM and data to support building projects and daily maintenance. Michael Ørsted is the chairman of the Digitalization group within the Danish Building Owners' organization.

Kenneth Passarge is responsible for BIM at Copenhagen Airport, and has been working with BIM for more than 10 years. Kenneth is securing that BIM is delivered timely and correct, and is furthermore involved in the project of creating rule-sets based on Denmark's national regulations.

Further Questions and Answers

Does CHP airport dictate a custom pset, (with specific parameters inside) to be attached to each element in an IFC?

Kenneth Passarge: Yes. We have a list of requirements for the Parameters that are going to be in the Models at different stages of the Project. That also gives a specific Pset. For Revit we have an export file.

Michael - you mention defining checks for the DK building code - are you also considering Planning rules? - in OZ called a Development Application (rule)

Michael Ørsted: Yes. Through initiatives, on linked data, we are trying to create a setup, where we could link to other demands. We have some ideas, but it will be long discussion.

Have you found that people / staff have responded well to adopting to change and seeing the benefit of using systems such as Solibri?

Kenneth Passarge: Yes, when they see how easy it is, and that we gain a lot by talking issues from the very beginning.

You were talking about a 4% saving cost. How did you calculate this? Can you please explain this?

Michael Ørsted: The errors we found on our first project were taken to our construction team, who estimated the cost, if those would have not been corrected.

With which modeling software was the airport modeled?

Kenneth Passarge: Revit.

How did you manage your BCF Files? Did you use a platform like BIMcollab or something?

Michael Ørsted: Mostly BIMcollab. But it depends on the Project team. We don't have requirements, but encourage the teams to use something similar.

I understand that IFC does not cover a lot of components (mostly around building works). How do you resolve this in the aviation project?

Michael Ørsted: We have not experienced problems. We have a manual for creating IFC files, whis also ensures that everything works correctly.

What happens after some issues are solved? How do i check, if there are more issues added to the last bcf-file?

Solibri: You can update a presentation in Solibri from a BCF file, however usually after sending the BCF file to a designer, they will send you a new IFC file, which should have the issues fixed. In this workflow you would then update the IFC to your Solibri model, and re-check -> update presentation from checking results. In the issue sorter, the issues have a 🛆 symbol to indicate if they are related to an issue under the rule checks. Also the issues not related to checking results (fixed) have the "checking decision" as undefined in the issues view which allows you to sort them by the checking decision value.

Is it possible to filter elements for the selection bucket

Solibri: You can set components to selection basket only by using the "select" tool or with the "-"; "+"; and "=" symbols which are part of most of the views. You can also save the selection basket for later use. The filters can be saved separately, but requires you to manually first choose the filter, press "=", and then save the selection basket. In case your models are frequently updated, the best way is to use rule based classification, which will automatically classify the components.
